ABOUT US EVENTS MENU CATERING DIRECTIONS AND HOURS CONTACT US ABOUT THE OWNERS James Evans and Daniel Samakow met at the current location of James’ Beach in 1981 when it was the West Beach Café. Evans has been in the restaurant business most of his life. Prior to James’ Beach he managed another famous Venice eatery, Dudley Moore and Tony Bill’s 72 Market Street bar & Grill. Samakow has been involved in business and art in Southern California for most of his life. He started a cosmetic company, Gruene, one door down from the current James’ Beach location in 1980 and took it public several years later. Daniel Samakow and James Evans opened James' Beach in 1996 and two years later opened the Canal Club. Samakow and Evans support numerous Venice organizations and work to maintain the great Venice traditions. Evans is on the board of Otis College and Samakow is on the board of the Venice Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, Samakow is a well-known Venice artist specializing in scenes of Venice.
